Why do farts make noise?
Fart sounds come from vibrations. When gas squeezes out, it makes the skin around the exit wiggle super fast, a bit like the end of a balloon when you let the air out slowly. More gas makes a louder toot. A tighter squeeze makes a higher, squeakier one. A looser one makes a deep, rumbly one. So when you hear Thunder Pants, that’s science!
Fun facts for your next family dinner
- Everybody farts. Kings, queens, astronauts, teachers, even your favorite movie star. Totally normal!
- Some of that gas is plain old air you swallowed while eating, drinking or talking.
- The smell comes from a tiny amount of gas made by the helpful bacteria in your gut while they digest your food. Foods like beans, broccoli and cabbage give them extra snacks. (Ask the DooDude about cabbage juice.)
About these sounds
Every sound on this board is an original created for DooDude. They were built from scratch out of math and computer code, so no real bottoms were involved in the making of this soundboard. Got a better toot? Tell the Bathroom Monitor.
